Aspirants are required to check eligibility conditions and instructions before applying for the exam, exclusively through the website www.upsconline .nic.in.
The Engineering Services Examination will be conducted in three stages: 1) The preliminary 2) The Main 3) The Personality Test.
The preliminary examination will be held tentatively on January 8, 2019 at various centres across the country (see details in the notification below). There will be negative marking for wrong answers by a candidate in the objective type question papers.
Candidates will be required to choose their preferred examination centre while applying. The commission will allot the centre on the first-come-first-serve basis.
(Applicants should note that there will be a ceiling on the number of candidates allotted to each of the centre except Chennai, Delhi, Dispur, Kolkata and Nagpur.)

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced that the next Indian Engineering Services (IES) exam will be conducted on January 8, 2019. The commission released the detailed notification yesterday on September 28 through it’s official website (www.upsc.gov.in). With notification out, the aspirants can now go ahead and submit their applications for the examination. UPSC has provided a window of 28 days to candidates for the registrations from September 28 to October 26, 2018 (6 pm).
The IES exam stands as the most sought after recruitment exam for engineering graduates in the country as the Union government selects IES officers on the basis of this exam which is held by UPSC. Last year in 2017, a total of 434 candidates were recommended for the engineering civil services by UPSC, witnessing the least selection ratio. The IAS exam and IES exam go hand in hand in terms of competitiveness and also in being most sought after with just the difference that IES is taken specifically to recruit the technical and managerial officers.
According to Wikipedia, each year around 2 lakh candidates take this test against the vacancies issued by the commission. The examination will be conducted in written mode on January 8, 2019 and the results will be declared in March 2019. The shortlisted candidates in the written test have to appear for interview/personality test, the schedule for which will be notified in due time.
